Holdman Out For the Season

2002-10-01

The Bears injury rash continued on Sunday, as they lost yet another defensive starter, Warrick Holdman. Holdman joins Phillip Daniels, Bobby Gray, R.W. McQuarters, and Ted Washington on the injured list. Holdman?s injury occurred late in the first quarter and it appeared as if he strained his knee. Further test showed torn cartilage in his right knee and he had surgery on it today to repair the damage. He is expected to miss the entire season, but there is a slim chance that he could make it back for the playoffs.

Mike Caldwell will replace Holdman on the outside. Caldwell was a starter for the Philadelphia Eagles last year and was signed as a free agent by the Bears. This injury will also mean more playing time for rookie Bryan Knight.

Phillip Daniels, whose been sidelined since opening day, tested his sprained ankle on Monday and said it was still sore. Daniels is expected to test it out again on Wednesday in hopes that he could make it back for the Monday Night Game against the Packers. Odds are that Daniels won?t make it back till the Detroit Lions game. R.W. McQuarters is also expected to be ready for the Detroit game.
